Don't Use Allied Vans!

By John Potter

I am a consumer watchdog. When I see problems with a company, I report it. That’s why I feel an intense need to tell you about Allied Vans. Allied Van Lines could quite possibly be the most disreputable moving company on the planet. Everyone complains about horrid moves with Allied Movers, such as theft, breakage, broken promises and a refusal by Allied Moving to pay claims. This angers me to no end; I almost hired Allied Vans for my recent move, but I researched first. I am so glad I didn’t use Allied Van Lines. You shouldn’t use Allied Moving either.

You would be surprised by what you read on the Internet about Allied Movers. So I don’t bore you with too many details, I am going to just tell you one story about Allied Vans that I read on Consumer Affairs. Its section on Allied Van Lines is 3 pages long, with very long web pages indeed. These complaints against Allied Vans are all real and are meant to help consumers like you not fall for the scams Allied Moving does. Just read what happened to Marynell of Springfield, Virginia when she hired Allied movers!

“I had Allied Vans move my household goods across country this past spring (2008). I purchased the extra insurance to protect against damage done during the move. I packed most of the boxes; the movers packed the lamps. The items were delivered to a storage unit, because I did not yet have a house at my new location. Once I did have a house (September 2008), my husband and I moved the items from the storage unit to the house.”

As you can see, Marynell took the extra step of buying the moving insurance Allied Van Lines offers. But while she packed most of her things, movers Allied packed her precious lamps. This is going to prove terrible for her!!! Just see what happens with Allied Moving next!

“When we unpacked, we discovered that three stoneware bread baskets and two table lamps had been broken. There was also some minor damage to a couple of pieces of furniture, but nothing that I considered worth claiming. I did file a claim for the bread baskets and the lamps. A week or so later, I received a call from Cassandra of Allied Vans and had what can only be described as the worst, most insulting customer service encounter of my entire life! “

See how Allied Van Lines treats its customers! Marynell was willing to overlook some damage done by Allied Movers, but she did want to file a claim for her valuable lamps and stoneware. But when she did, she received horrible customer service from Allied Vans. This behavior from Allied Van Lines is inexcusable!

Indeed, Allied Vans will do anything to get out of paying for damaged items. Here’s what first happened when our poor consumer tries to get compensation from Allied Moving:

“From the moment she picked-up the phone, she was rude, argumentative, and dismissive. She flat out denied my claim but failed to clearly explain why. She said that since we hadn't signed anything saying the items were broken at the time they were delivered to the storage unit, that Allied Van Lines has no liability.”

This behavior of denying claims that Allied Vans has continues as Marynell continues to pursue her claim. Cassandra, the rude employee of Allied Moving, truly will do anything to get Allied Movers off the hook, even though I’m sure she knows that Allied Van Lines is in the wrong and should pay the claim. This is the final part of the testimonial again Allied Movers:

“When I pointed out that we couldn't have known they were broken at that time since they were boxed up, she then said that Allied Vans had no liability because the items could have been broken when my husband and I moved them to the house. I said I wanted to dispute the decision and she said a letter would be sent telling me how to do that. I asked -again and loudly- for a clear explanation of why we were being denied. She became defensive and even ruder. Ultimately, she hung up on me.”

Can you believe the behavior of this Allied Van Lines employee? I’m sure Marynell not only never got the promised letter from Allied Movers, but also that Allied Moving gypped her out of her damage claim. This is probably the most reprehensible behavior I have ever heard about!

Marynell claims, “I will NEVER use Allied Vans again.” I don’t blame her. I certainly won’t use Allied Van Lines; I hope you won’t either.
